SIAE - ROYALTIES TAX FOR MODERN MUSIC

MODERN MUSIC TAX - SIAE

When you are organizing the party for your wedding, remember the SIAE.  This is only for music (live and recorded) by artists who have not been dead more than 100 years. So classical music - for your ceremony -  is exempt.

Who pays the SIAE

The payment of the SIAE is the responsibility of the organizer/who orders the service of musicians or DJ's  (for a wedding: the bride and groom).

Why pay

When party is organized in a family environment (home ) and without any economic response is exempt from payment of appropriate fees, but if  it's in a public place (hotel, winery, villa)  where there is music, you have to pay related fees.

The cost of SIAE

Usually there are standard rates, but  depending on the number of guests, the location, if there is live music or a Dj, if you can dance and the time. Normally below  100 people you spend about  euro 150,00 , up to 150 people about  200,00 euro.  IF the venue handles this for you, you may have to pay a bit more for their services/time.

Where

The payment  is performed about a week before the event  in the office concerning the Province of the venue  ( It's very easy and fast, you will have the permit and the borderaux who must be delivered to the musician. He will write the songs played  at your party , then this sheet must be returned within one week from the end of the event in the same office .

The Musicians

It's really important that artists are in compliance with all documents. Musicians MUST BE registered to the ENPALS office and in addition they must have licence to play in a public place.

If they have not the permission:

In the event that a SIAE Inspector performed a control, the musician can not play, and the owner of restaurant would be fined. So first make sure that the musicians are regularly enrolled  to ENPALS and who have the authorisation.
